Why Spacing Between Cars Matters at a Car Wash

When you pull up to a car wash, you probably aren’t thinking about the distance between your vehicle and the car in front of you. But that spacing actually plays an important role in how clean your vehicle gets. At JetSplash, we intentionally maintain proper spacing between vehicles entering the wash tunnel. It may seem like a small detail, but it’s one of the ways we ensure every vehicle receives a complete and consistent wash.

Hand Prep Creates the Right Spacing

Before your vehicle enters the tunnel at JetSplash, every car is hand-prepped by our team. This step helps remove heavy dirt and bug buildup before the automated wash begins.

An added benefit of this process is that it naturally creates adequate spacing between vehicles entering the tunnel. Instead of pushing cars through as quickly as possible, we allow enough room for the equipment to fully perform each stage of the wash.

How the Wash Equipment Works

Inside the tunnel, the brush wraps are programmed to make multiple passes around your vehicle to ensure complete coverage.

This includes:

  • Side brush passes along the body of the vehicle

  • Top brush passes across the roof and windshield

  • Four full passes across the rear of the vehicle

Those rear passes are especially important. The back of a car or SUV is where dirt, road spray, and winter salt tend to collect the most.

What Happens When Cars Are Too Close Together

Modern car washes use sonar sensors to detect the position of each vehicle in the tunnel.

If vehicles are spaced too closely together, those sensors can detect the next car earlier than expected. When that happens, the equipment may move forward to the next cycle before finishing the final cleaning passes on the vehicle ahead.

In other words, the wash equipment may cut the cycle short.

That means the rear of the vehicle may not receive the full number of brush passes it’s designed to get.

Why Proper Spacing Makes a Difference

By maintaining the right distance between vehicles, JetSplash ensures that every car receives the full wash cycle the equipment was designed to deliver.

Proper spacing allows for:

  • Full brush coverage across the entire vehicle

  • Complete rear cleaning

  • Consistent wash results

  • No rushed cycles

Spacing between cars isn’t something most customers notice when they visit a car wash. But behind the scenes, it’s one of the many details that helps determine the final result.

At JetSplash, we focus on these small operational choices because they add up to a better wash.

The next time you pull into the tunnel, remember — that little bit of space between you and the car ahead is there for a reason.

It helps make sure your vehicle gets the clean it deserves.
